Results released by the Global Fund have indicated a noteworthy increase in the number of people being treated for HIV, with a total of 17 million people receiving antiretroviral (ARV) treatment worldwide by December 2015. 9.2 million of whom have been provided treatment by the Global Fund partnership, indicating that Global Fund programs treat over 54 percent of those receiving HIV treatment around the world.
These figures highlight a dramatic increase in HIV treatment since the turn of the millennium, with figures from December 2000 indicating that only 770,000 people living with HIV were receiving treatment.
With the support of governments, civil society, the private sector and local communities, accessibility of ARV treatment has never been higher with treatment costing less than US$100 per person, per year.
